Synopsis - When Voyager finds the parents of one of their ex-Borg children, Seven has difficulty letting him go.

Child`s Play is not what is in store for Seven when she must allow one of the Borg children, she's been looking after, return to his parents. Despite her early apprehensions in her role as guardian to the Borg children, as evidenced in the previous episode, Seven has grown much closer to them, now that she's allowing them to explore their individuality. She also feels the stong need to be a better guardian to them than her own parents were to her, doing whatever it takes to keep them out of harm's way and being reassimilated into the collective. This is a concern for her when she learns, that Icheb's parents live near a Borg transwarp conduit, and have been attacked numerous times over the past ten years or so by the Borg. An excellent growing experience for her character, and another find performance turned in by Jeri Ryan.
Icheb's character has been very well written here, with his early resistance to even wanting to meet his parents; given he has no recollection of them. The key turn around point came when forced to have dinner with his parents, and he tries his favourite meal from before he was assimilated; a very nice touch. The surprise in the episode comes when we discover the real reason that Icheb was assimilated in the first place, and that he was the carrier of the pathogen that killed the adult Borg in #935 Collective; providing a nice twist in the story. A nice way for his character to continue to grow on the show, should the writers continue to write more stories about these Borg children.
