Synopsis - Voyager encounters a rare subspace cloud which centuries ago swallowed the first manned Mars orbiter. Tuvok, Seven and Tom take the Flyer in to try and salvage it.

One Small Step for a hologram, one giant leap for mankind" were the Doctor's words describing his first away mission while trying to explain to Seven what it means to become a part of history and leaving your mark. As the crew comes across a piece of Earth history, they invariably feel linked to the origins of the space program; obviously to the Mars project, and even to the moon; hence the title echoing Neil Armstrongs famous words.
After all Star Trek is already linked to the real life space program, as when it came time for NASA to name the first shuttle, it was decided they would name it after the Starship Enterprise of the Original Series. This episode makes a nice tribute to the real life space program and serves as a reminder that we must continue to pursue Mars and space exploration in general.
A nice bit of consistancy with Deep Space Nine was the mention of 21st Century baseball player Buck Bokai of the London Kings who appeared as a holodeck character in the 1st season Deep Space Nine episode If Wishes Were Horses. Still quite interesting is stab at the possibility of the United Kingdom embracing the sport of baseball on a professional level within the next 30 or so odd years; unless of course they mean one of the many small North American towns also bearing the name London.
