Synopsis - A transporter accident causes Seven of Nine's Borg nanoprobes to fuse with the Doctor's mobile holographic emitter, creating a 29th century Borg drone.

Drone puts Seven's humanity to the test, as she must make first contact with Borg drone far superior to herself. It is interesting in how it points out the fears that other races perceive from the Borg. The episode also picks up Janeway's new-found determination to see the ship's return to the Alpha quadrant, as she immediately jumps on the chance to use One's increased abilities to help them with their journey.

This episode could be considered similar to the Next Generation 5th season episode I, Borg in that it deals with cultivating a drone into uniqueness; but it is more than sufficiently different to be of interest.

Seeing the Borg in a fetal stage here is interesting and harken's us back to the Next Generation 2nd season episode Q Who where we saw a Borg nursery of sorts with Borg babies in incubator type drawers. Somewhat puzzling however, is Seven's statement that the Borg assimilate and do not reproduce in this fashion, yet later on she is able to precisely indicate what stage of maturation the Borg while it was growing before it became aware (probably Brannon Braga's input).
