Synopsis - After 2 months of passing through a spatial void, the crew is bored and Janeway is withdrawn; until they encounter a species native to the void; and one that isn't.

Night deals with the issue of toxic waste dumping and themes of loneliness and misplaced guilt. In the void, while most of the crew suffers from boredom and Neelix from a fear of loneliness, Janeway isolates herself in her cabin, and comes to the ultimate decision that she erred in judgement, when she stranded the ship in the Delta Quadrant by saving the Ocompa. This drives her to the point of leaving Voyager in order that the ship may advance 2 years along their journey. Theses themes parallel the VOY episode which aired the same week, Afterimage.

We see a new holodeck program of Tom's in this episode; that of a 1950's science fiction story; and in glorious black and white no less.. Let's see if the producers stay more consistent with this one than they have previous ones in the series; constant as TNG's Dixon Hill would be nice.
